Senior Machinist

Job Summary:

The Senior Machinist position plays an important role in the development and certification efforts of DeltaHawk Engines. Under the supervision of the Test Manager, the Senior Machinist will have a diverse role providing support for designing, fabricating, and assembling test fixtures and test facility infrastructure. In addition, this individual will provide support in one or more areas including machining and testing support.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Fabrication of test equipment, holding fixtures, and test facility infrastructure in support of the engineering and test departments
  • Modification of existing or new components as required to meet engineering specified test needs
  • Machining of components required for larger fabrication assemblies
  • Communication (verbal or written) of project status to engineering and leadership


Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience machining aluminum, steel, stainless, and plastics using manual mills, lathes, saws and grinders
  • Ability to choose proper work-holding/fixturing, tooling, feeds/speeds, and tool paths of machining operations
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and tolerances (GD&T) as well as measure critical dimensions
  • Experience programming, setup (including tooling), operating CNC mills and lathes in a non-production R&D environment
  • Knowledge of the mechanical properties of various metals and common plastics
  • Attention to detail in all tasks including troubleshooting assemblies as well as final assembly and fitting work
  • Passionate about learning and a strong “can do” attitude
  • Ability to lift, hold, and position weights up to 45 lbs. intermittently (two to four times per hour over a work shift) as well as work in various positions as needed for typical fabrication tasks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience and desire to mentor and develop new and/or junior employees in areas of expertise


  • Welding experience using TIG on aluminum as well as thin stainless plate and tubing
  • Experience creating detailed weldments as well as holding fixtures for same (e.g. roll cages, race car frames, aerospace engine mounts, etc.)
  • Experience with other welding processes such as MIG and stick

  • Ability to read prints and use sheet metal tools such as brakes, shears, rollers, and cutters
  • Ability to create digital or paper drawings as needed to document fabrication projects

Working Conditions:

Work will be conducted in a mechanical shop and engine test cell environment with standard precautions required consistent with welding, fabrication, assembly and test environments.
